I wanted to start yesterday lol, but there was so much mess on my desk that a big tidy-up was compulsory. And I ended up tidying not only my desk but the whole room, I redecorated the walls, threw away so many useless files, hooved the floor, etc, etc.
SO TODAY WAS THE DAY
I struggled to start, mainly I guess because of my poor diet since yesterday night lol. But thanks to yesterday I noticed a piece of paper that I had stuck on the wall next to my desk, and for some reason, I never ever looked at it since I put it there. "A tested working method - Illustration". I got it when I finished uni and it's been a year. So I started to follow the method; quickly sketching my first ideas, researching my theme, drew little bits that I know I won't use as they are but could be good references, etc. Then it was time to sketch up ideas for the final thing, and at first, I approached this exercise like "uuggh so useless I will do my first idea anyway" but then sketch after sketches more and more ideas were coming to me, as well as ways to refine them. That leads me to a huuuge realization; I spent the year directly drawing something, like I was before studying art, not be 100% pleased with it but because I had spent time on it I would just accept it, and then I would move on to a whole new thing. No wonder I found my illustration not "big" or "deep" enough. The whole process is superficial. Also, I believe in spontaneity, but it works best when there are rigorous hours of work before.
